To my friend, mentor and a true gentleman,

I am blessed to be one of many people whose lives you inspire. Over the past 12 years, I have gotten to know you both professionally and personally. All your passion for science has touched people across the globe without them even being aware of it because of the contributions you have made to improving UV safety. Personally, I need to thank you for pushing me to get my Master’s degree when I never even imagined it was a possibility for me. Then you introduced me to other great mentors in my life that have been critical to the pursuit of my doctorate degree and development of my career. Thank you for continuing to encourage me with your passion for photobiology. I want to thank you for the times we spent watching old WWII movies and the time you spent translating them to me. Thank you for opening my mind to classical music. Our mutual passion for photography led to a great exchange amongst amateur photographers. Thank you for sharing your passion for all the latest tech gadgets and making our 50 year age gap nonexistent as you showed me how to use an iPad. Thank you for occasionally turning the tables on me and asking me for advice instead of the other way around. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and showing me how a true gentleman carries himself. I don’t know how to honor somebody who has impacted my life in such a way, but I do know that I will be able to describe how to be a true gentleman to my son when he is born next year. Sergio
