Janusz and Zosia are my mom's Godparents. Janusz was great friends with my grandfather, Stanislaw Lewak, in Poland when they were just kids. In 1987, when my mom escaped her extremely abusive marriage from my father, Janusz and Zosia took us in. They let my mom, brother, and I live in the basement of their Rockville home for almost an entire year. My younger brother, and I were in elementary school. It must have been pretty difficult, with their own children off in college, to have their house full of the chaos that comes along with grade school kids, but Janusz and Zosia always made us feel loved, welcome, and most importantly SAFE. There are people that God puts in your path at that crucial "fork in the road" time of your life. Janusz and Zosia were THOSE people at THAT time for my young mother all alone with two small kids. They gave her a chance,and they gave her a voice. For that, my family will forever be grateful!
